Anthro-cyclical
An Experiment led by Shaun Kono-Peck & Directed by Ryan Ondo
Anthro-cyclical is a meditation on human presence — on creating, in the moment, with others through instinct and emotion. The piece exists within a loose but deliberate framework: a cycle of harmonic and conceptual ideas that repeats, but never in the same way twice. The score invites performers to make spontaneous decisions within that shared space, resulting in a performance that is forever different, but always undeniably Anthro-cyclical.
The structure speaks to a principle: that impermanence does not mean chaos. Like a conversation between close friends, it is never scripted, but always familiar.
At its core, Anthro-cyclical is a quiet argument for humanity in art, reflecting something that can’t be automated. The subtle alchemy of presence, choice, and feeling defines what it means to be human. Where algorithms calculate, humans respond. Where systems replicate, humans relate. Anthro-cyclical is about humanity and the subtle interplay of choice, vulnerability, and connection that makes art alive.
What emerges is a living process rooted in trust, attention, and empathy. The piece asks performers not just to play, but to listen, to respond honestly, allowing its form to take shape through interaction. This balance between form and freedom sees the piece evolve, not as a departure, but as fulfillment. This open-endedness is how Anthro-cyclical finds its identity: always shifting, always returning.
